Arsenal stars kick off Nike Air Max 90 campaign

Arsenal stars Andrey Arshavin and Marouane Chamakh are fronting the new Nike and Foot Locker campaign for the newly styled Nike Air Max 90 (AM90). This 60 second film also stars Roma’s (and ex-Fulham) Stefano Chuka Okaka who is wildely tipped to be the first black player to play for Italy. The AM90 will hit the shelves on 15th August 2010, priced at £89.99.

Five by Rio Ferdinand, new fashion footwear

It looks as if Rio Ferdinand will miss the start of the season and won’t get back on the field until September, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United. The damaged knee ligament that kept him from the World Cup has not healed quite as fast as originally forecast, but the injured captain has not been entirely idle. Last week Ferdinand was in London to launch his new collection of footwear fashion for men, which he’s calling ‘Five by Rio Ferdinand’ – or just ‘Five’.

Rio designed the collection for Strutt Couture, named it for his jersey number and has already found a space in Manchester, i.e. Aspecto in the city centre and at Trafford Centre, to showcase his stuff. He told interviewers that he is always looking for interests outside of football and that fashion is one of his passions.

There are 24 different shoe styles in the Autumn/Winter collection including boots and trainers and ranging from classic to casual. The collection also includes accessories for men, wallets and ‘manbags’. Sure, there are plenty of skeptics, but Rio’s shoes actually look pretty good, and he’s never been one to let a little opposition bother him.

Thierry Henry Endorses Reebok ZigTech

Coming soon to a sports shop near you, Reebok ZigTech is the training shoe designed to help athletes run further and faster for longer with less fatigue.

French footballer Thierry Henry was spotted championing the new ZigTech range alongside Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton at the US Reebok launch in March.

The two raced one another across a zig-zagging assault course, putting their Reebok ZigTech trainers to the test as they swang from ropes, ran up travelators and through obstacles.

Once the roaring crowd had quietened down, Reebok explained the ideas behind their ZigTech trainers and their unusual Zig sole unit.

Designed as a training aid, Reebok ZigTech is a new range of athletic shoes inspired by the energy transfer of a slinky. The concept is for the energy generated at heel strike to ripple down the zigs in the ZigTech sole, through the stride and providing extra power when the wearer pushes off with their toes, propelling them forward faster.

So the combination of extreme cushioning and efficient energy transfer takes the focus away from shock absorption and into forward momentum. And because key leg muscles are being used purely for running and not taking the impact of the athlete’s feet hitting the floor, it’s possible to run further and faster for longer with less fatigue and a reduced chance of injury.

The Reebok ZigTech is already being worn by Reebok sponsored athletes to enhance their training sessions and will be coming to the UK very soon.

Serbia beat Brazil in final of World Cup Fittest Fans!

Although Brazil were disappointing on the pitch during the World Cup. they did at least have the consolation of reaching the World Cup final when it came to a competition to find the fittest World Cup fans run by PartyBets.

Throughout the competition visitors to the PartyBets World Cup portal have been making their choices –and almost three-quarters of the final votes went to a brown-eyed blonde with a cheeky smile from Serbia.

England also did better than Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad managed in South Africa. They got through to the semi-finals, before eventually being beaten by the runner-up from Brazil.

Alex Ferguson draws the line,.. At coloured boots

The English football Premier League has not had a good last few weeks with tabloids featuring the indiscretions of many of its star players almost every day.

Although Ashley Cole’s troubled marriage to Cheryl Cole and John Terry’s adulterous affair have been pretty horrible for the football teams, and the fact that Portsmouth is threatened with a wind up order after the financial mismanagement of the bottom club.

However, while the world’s wealthiest sporting team is out searching for a moral compass, Sir Alex Ferguson may be able to help out by taking a strong stand against vivid bright coloured football boots. According to his new rules, all of the junior players on the Manchester team will have to wear old school black any time they are on club business.

Defender John O’Shea stated that the restrictions are to help the players from being singled out if they are playing poorly and that once a team earns a spot on the first team squad or reserve then they can wear flashy colours.

Although it may seem as if Ferguson’s change is simply cosmetic, the truth is that the collared boot has represented football’s popularity over the last twenty years and its absence in junior players may help restore honour and order to wear it is due.

Before Ferguson’s announcement people were already getting tired of the collared boots with youth team coach of the Queens Park Rangers, Marc Bircham, banning his players from wearing them because of how flashy they look.
